Early New Glarus Brewery Investors Sue Over Profits Dispute


CEO Says Lawsuit Is Retaliation For Not Laying Off Employees During Pandemic

Some of the original investors in New Glarus Brewing Co., one of Wisconsin’s most iconic craft brewers, are accusing the company’s chief executive of keeping annual profits from them.

In a lawsuit filed Friday in Dane County Circuit Court, the investors, Karin Eichhoff, Steven Speer, and Roderick Runyan, contend New Glarus CEO Deb Carey and her husband, Dan Carey, New Glarus’s brewmaster, have bullied minority shareholders while misrepresenting and withholding information so the Carey family can gain more financial power....

Ken Notes: I think Deb is among the greatest marketers in the State and clearly made her investors very very wealthy. She also marches to her own drummer and probably didn`t ask for a lot of "council" when she created Sugar River Distillery, set up her foundation, or made business choices during the pandemic. My guess is an arbitrator could resolve this, but in the courts the real winners will be the lawyers. Deb, Dan and the investors are all millionaires and want to continue to live that lifestyle so they need to continue to "milk the cow" and get along. Too bad they could not invest in Ale Asylum and double down.
