RED CLIFF - Curtis Basina knew he needed something more to help his business, Copper Crow Distillery, the first Native American-owned distillery in the country, thrive. It wasn’t enough that he offered a nice place to relax and enjoy spirits near the shores of Lake Superior deep in the Wisconsin Northwoods, where people go for plenty of outdoor recreation and to experience the beautiful Apostle Islands. Before Basina, 60, embarked on his business venture after retiring from the Wisconsin State Patrol, he attended a trade conference to learn more in Seattle in 2016.
